Tabata Training

Tabata Training

You may be thinking ‘what is Tabata training?’ Here is a quick overview:

strong‘Tabata’ is a high-intensity interval training model (HIIT), which is the new kid on the block in the fitness world. The main rational why this fitness system is changing the way that we work out is quite simple; it takes a reduced amount of time to get rapid results in terms of fat loss, fitness levels. It also is effective at maintaining your general health and well-being!

The Tabata Model

A Tabata model is as follows:

  • Each exercise lasts for a duration of between 20 to 30 seconds
  • After each exercise there is a 10-second rest interval
  • Each round in Tabata lasts for 8 exercises
  • Each round lasts for roughly 4-5 minutes
  • You can stack the rounds to make a Tabata workout e.g. 16 minutes = 4 rounds of 8 exercises lasting for 20 seconds with 10 seconds rest intervals in between.

Basically, you work at 110% in terms of effort, at a very high intensity for the allocated time (20-25seconds) and then you rest for 10 seconds. This will optimise your fitness/health goals and many of the exercises in our 60-Day programme use large muscle groups and are ‘compound’ in nature. This enhances the quality of the session by improving metabolic conditioning, blasting up your metabolism and ensuring that your body is at its optimal fat burning potential. This is good news in terms of your general health and well-being!

Research has indicated that a Tabata style workout of 6-8 high-intensity exercises ranging from 20-30 seconds (with a 10 seconds rest intervals) can burn up to 10 times as much as steady state cardio in a shorter length of time. Therefore, all of the exercises in the workouts should be performed with maximum effort i.e. move your butt at 110% effort pace!

If you have not exercised for a while, not to worry as each workout has been designed to get you moving in a comfortable but challenging way. You will start to feel and look different throughout the 60-Day Programme; use this positive momentum to drive your fitness levels up!
