Unlike other types of diets, you do not really need to have a workout plan to lose weight on a low carb diet.

For many people, this can be quite convenient since not everyone gets pumped about the idea of exercising.

However, when you do add in a workout routine, it can help you to sustain your weight loss and help you to improve your health.

Low Carb and Exercise

When you exercise, your body starts burning up the carbohydrates first. It is only after a workout of almost half an hour, that your body finally starts burning the reserve fats in it.

On the other hand, if you are on a low carb diet, the body starts to target fats at the start of the workout as your glycogen stores are very low because of your low carb intake.

How to Exercise on a low carb diet

Workout styles can vary, depending on the type of diet you are on. The following types of exercises can be done when on a low carb diet.

Aerobic Exercise:

Exercises such as walking, or jogging are all low intensity but long duration workouts. There is steady fat burning going on that makes it suitable for people on a low carb diet.

Stability Exercise:

These exercises focus on your balance maintenance and the training of core muscles. With these exercising, you can have better control over your posture and muscle strength. Once again low intensity in nature, these exercises can complement your body as it adapts to low carb eating.

Flexibility Exercise:

These exercises are suitable for stretching body muscles and making joints stronger. By performing them daily, you will be able to use your muscles for a wider range of motion. An example of this is yoga which can help lower the number of injuries caused to the body by preventing muscle shortening.

Anaerobic Exercises:

A more intense way to workout, anaerobic exercise involves shorter bursts of energy within the workout. Typically, this type of exercise is ideal for a high carb diet since it is quite intense and hard.

While exercise on a low carb diet may not be needed to lose weight, it can certainly speed up the process and also help keep the body active and fit.
